50 Cent during filming of Things Fall Apart
Back in May I, along with many other bloggers, wrote about 50 Cent’s dramatic scrawnination for his role as a cancer patient in Things Fall Apart. He dropped 54 lbs in 9 weeks with a liquid diet and daily 3-hour workouts, with an emaciated result as dangerous as my 100 days of starvation. Do not try this at home.
The good news is, as fiddy was ahead of me in the extreme weight loss (and better paid for it, I’d wager) he’s also recovering nicely. For those who think he looks puffy now, when you go from burning up body fat that fast to eating again you retain water for a long while afterwards.
50 Cen’ts first meal after his nutritional deprivation? A steak. “I remember specifically what the first thing was, because I was starving,” he said on The View. “I had a steak. It was 12 ounces, but I got about four ounces in before I started getting sleepy.”
Dude, I can relate.
I obviously find 50′s recovery from being a thin dime to a normal size comforting and inspiring. I’ve recently been invited to take on another project which promises to be physically challenging, so the key will be to keep my caloric intake up while packing the muscle back on.
If at times I get a little extra fat I remind myself that, like anything, it’s moderation. A little more fat is fine when building muscle – it’s more energy for your body to draw on 24 hours a day to build the muscle tissue. Just don’t let it become an excuse for a lot of fat.
Here’s 50 Cent now:
